Andretti Autosport driver Ryan Hunter-Reay achieved the best performance of the first free practice session in St Petersburg (1’04”1437). He is ahead of the 2010 vice-champion, Will Power (Penske, + 0”0388) and the other Andretti driver, Mike conway (+0 »0791). The reigning champion, Dario Franchitti signs the 6th time. For his return, Sébastien Bourdais (Dale Coyne) is 20th at 1”3828. Note that the session was shortened by fifteen minutes following the accident of EJ Viso who lost control of his Dallara and hit the wall.
