Third in EL1, Canadian James Hinchcliffe (SPM – Honda) set the best time in the second free practice session for the Alabama Grand Prix, held at Barber Motorsports Park.
Hinchcliffe set a benchmark time of 1'08"999 and finished Friday at the top of the combined time sheets. The domination of Honda engines continues since the top 6 is monopolized by single-seaters powered by the Japanese block.
Colton Herta (Harding Steinbrenner Racing) follows in second position at 9 thousandths and is ahead of Santino Ferrucci (Dale Coyne Racing), Sébastien Bourdais (Dale Coyne Racing with Vasser-Sullivan), Alexander Red and Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti Autosport).
Spencer Pigot (Ed Carpenter Racing) and Patricio O'Ward (Carlin) are the best Chevrolet representatives in 7th and 8th rows. simon pagenaud (Team Penske – Chevrolet) only took 15th place.
A good number of drivers made mistakes during this session, however without any unfortunate consequences.
