Marco Andretti (Andretti Autosports) set the best time at the end of the first day of testing IndyCar of the Alabama GP by completing a lap of Barber Motorsports Park in 1'07''7134, ahead of Will Power (Team Penske) by 3 hundredths.
The Penske drivers are well placed since simon pagenaud took 3rd place ahead of his teammate Helio Castroneves. Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing) completed the top five ahead of Josef Newgarden (Team Penske). Sebastian Bourdais (Dale Coyne Racing) finished 9th.
The second session was interrupted twice. The first red flag was displayed following a spin by Max Chilton (Chip Ganassi Racing), while the second was caused by Ed Jones (Dale Coyne Racing) losing control.
