Jim Rathmann, the winner of the 500 Indianapolis 1960, died at the age of 83 a week after suffering a heart attack. The American also distinguished himself by winning the 500 Miles of the Race of the Two Worlds held in Monza. He had already almost won at Indianapolis by finishing in 2nd place in 1952, 1957 and 1958.
