Will Power, winner of the Indianapolis 500 this year with Team Penske, and Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing) were able to test several new aerodynamics last Monday on DW12 chassis in preparation for the 2019 season.

As recalled by Bill Pappas, vice-president of competition IndyCar, one of the main sources of driver dissatisfaction remained chronic understeer on ovals when exiting corners, in traffic.

Several prototype parts, including a vertical front wing panel, were developed to try to resolve these problems, and were tested by the two drivers.

“For us in the race this year, it was difficult to follow each other closely, mentions Dixon. There were a few aerodynamic parts that the teams and engineers felt might be an issue, and that we could fix to make the race a little better for next year. »

The IndyCar Series has been able to count on a universal aero kit since this year, after several years of war between Chevrolet and Honda on the aerodynamic level, in addition to the engine supply.
