Their association is far from unprecedented. For the return of the German team in Formula E next season, ABT has decided to hire Nico Müller and Robin Frijns. The two drivers know each other well since they were teammates between 2018 and 2020 at ABT in the German touring championship, the DTM. The duo will be on board the new Gen3 powered next season by a Mahindra unit.
They say there's no place like home. Welcome back, @RFrijns and @nico_mueller! 😍

After a season of absence in 2022 following the departure of Audi, ABT trusts two “in-house” drivers for its return to FE in 2023. “Robin and Nico were our dream team from the start. They have everything we need for our return to Formula E: speed, experience and good spirit, said Hans-Jürgen Abt, Managing Partner of ABT. If we want to stand up to the big factory teams in the new season, we need a small but powerful team. And that’s where Robin and Nico fit in perfectly. »
An experienced duo who appreciate each other at ABT
Nico Müller and Robin Frijns also have a lot of experience in electric racing. The Swiss completed 17 races for the Dragon team in 2020 and 2021 and also supported Audi by carrying out testing and working in the simulator. The Dutchman also raced in Formula E for Andretti and Envision for 6 seasons, winning 2 victories and 13 podiums.
“After the excellent years we spent together in DTM, I am looking forward to this new chapter with ABT and my return to Formula E, declared Nico Müller. “And then, I'm also going to race with Robin, with whom I simply had a great time on and off the track. I think there are good ingredients coming together that will put us in a good position for this new challenge. »
“I know the ABT team and Nico from the DTM, where we had a great relationship in the team and enjoyed a lot of success, rejoiced Robin Frijns. This is exactly how we want to continue in Formula E. Of course, this is a big step for all of us and we will have to learn a lot and quickly. But I have full confidence in the ABT team, which has been a sensation in every racing series in its history. It’s great to be part of it again. » The Müller-Frijns duo will return to the grid for the Mexico E-Prix on January 14, 2023.
