A year then gone. Holder within the Charouz team this season, Pedro Piquet will not carry out a new campaign. F2. It is through his Instagram account that the son of champion Nelson Piquet confirmed the information, pointing out in particular a sport where money is often favored over the athlete.
« We live in difficult times that demand new perspectives and new thoughts. I would like to inform you that I will not be racing in Formula 2 in 2021. I am passionate about this sport, but these last three years have made me understand the financial support that is necessary to get to Formula 1.
As you follow the sport, you have undoubtedly seen what has happened over the last two years in Formula 2. The 2019 champion (Nick de Vries) did not have a steering wheel and his runner-up was able to get there thanks to his sponsors. This year, the vice-champion (Callum Ilott) will not go to F1, and the one who took the place is another (Nikita mazepin) who bought half the team. Maybe this will change one day, maybe it will become more accessible and it will help talent take off ».
On the other hand, Pedro Piquet does not specify what his future will look like. No F2 in any case.
