The famous American circuit, scene of the Indianapolis 500 and which also hosted the Grand Prix of F1 of the United States between 2000 and 2007, will have a makeover for 2014. A new asphalt section will be added in each of the four turns of the speed ring used by the NASCAR and l'IndyCar to facilitate overruns, at an estimated cost of $1 million. The Sprint Cup drivers in particular had stressed that it was difficult for them to stay side by side.

The other developments concern the road circuit, located in the middle of the Indiana oval, and which will host a round of the IndyCar Series on May 10, 15 days before Indy 500. The track will be resurfaced and the grandstands and other facilities for the public will be modernized. On the other hand, the project of lighting the ring aimed at organizing a night race was not retained.
