Romanian Robert Visoiu announced this Thursday on Twitter that he was hanging up his helmet at just 21 years old, the day after the announcement of his replacement by alex palou this weekend in Jerez (Spain). Visoiu was initially expected to finish the season Formula 2 within Campos Racing, a team he joined during the Monaco meeting last May. “I warmly thank all the people who believed in me and helped me in my career”, did he declare.

Visoiu started in car in the Italian Formula Abarth championship in 2011, before moving to Auto GP, then the following three seasons in GP3. He notably finished 12th in 2013, with two victories to boot. After a sabbatical year, the Romanian returned to competition in 2015 in GP2 without scoring a podium (17th), before absenting himself from the circuits again. Visoiu signed up for Campos Racing in 2017 (currently 22nd).
