After F3 in the morning, F2 took the trail of Red Bull Ring (Austria) in turn this Friday noon, avoiding the rain in the morning. As expected, the rookies showed themselves to their advantage, since three of them managed to climb into the Top 5. This is also Yuki tsunoda (Carlin), 9th in FIA F3 last season, who posted the best performance (1'15"249) in a session interrupted a few minutes following the exit of Marino Sato (Trident) in the Pirelli corner. The Japanese beat the Italian regular Luca Ghiotto (Hitech/+0.054) and the New Zealand neophyte Marcus Armstrong (ART/+0'156).

Note that Prema, Campos and DAMS, three teams which are used to shining in the category, remained behind. On the French side, Giuliano Alesi (BWT) set the 13th time, just behind his teammate Artem Markelov, almost a second behind the leader.
