We learned of the death of Bernard Consten, aged 85. After beginnings in rally in the 50s, the native of Courbevoie became the first French champion in 1967 at the wheel of a Alfa Romeo. Rallies are not his only field of expression, since Bernard Consten also competes in 24 Hours of Le Mans six times between 1957 and 1962.

The following year, he took over as president of the French Automobile Sport Federation. In 1969, it was under his leadership that the Tour de France automobile was relaunched, not contested since 1965, and where he had shone in the Tourism category. He remained the organizer until 1980.

One of his last major victories as a driver will remain the Bandama Rally in Ivory Coast in 1975 with a Peugeot 504. All AUTO editorial staffhebdo extends its sincere condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of Bernard Consten.
