Having moved from the Ford Fiesta to the Skoda Fabia R5, Lo Fiégo immediately began a one-second duel with Vivens who fitted a visibly effective 306 front axle on his Peugeot 206. The storm was unleashed in SS3. Mixing the envelopes, Lo Fiégo saved the furniture when, behind, Vivens, 2nd at 59" on Saturday evening, Burnens (BMW Compact), Monteil or Brunet suffered. Sunday morning, Lo Fiégo spun and suffered the law of Vivens and Monteil in SS5. But the Skoda driver had won the race when Vivens went off the road and was evacuated to the Nîmes University Hospital with his co-driver Valibouze; both were finally relieved with minor injuries, while Pougnant (Clio) had stopped to help. Monteil and Brunet made a good comeback to reach the podium while Liron, momentarily 2nd, gave up. 4th overall, Durand scored his first real success in R3. Baldini (Mégane) hit a huge stone on the road (SS10) and left the Group N victory to Frontier. A. Lauret
