Marcus Grönholm returns to a WRC
A flying Finn coming out of retirement always has a little effect. Marcus Grönholm has announced his participation in the Mythical Cars Rally, May 24-27, aboard a Subaru Impreza WRC from 2008!
The double world rally champion with Peugeot (2000, 2002) will find his brother-in-law, Timo Rautiainen, as co-pilot. This unique event, dedicated to the former WRC, S2000, S1600 and Group A, will take place over 80 km of timed sections and seven special stages near Varzi, in Lombardy.
“The priority for me is to have fun, nothing more, certifies Sébastien's former opponent Loeb. I don't want people to start expecting a big result from me. I'm not coming back to be world champion and I won't drive like an idiot. I'm just going to enjoy the race and the atmosphere around this event.
“I understand there will be a lot of fans in the city and on the stages – I will try to entertain them and have a good time with them. That's the main thing for me. Maybe driving the Subaru is a good plan on Andrea's part (Adamo, member of the organization and former boss of Hyundai Motorsport. Editor’s note) ; Okay, I have a little history with this car, but not much. If I drove the [Peugeot ] 206 WRC, I might be tempted to think that it's 2002 again and I can push like hell! »
