The deadline set by the FIA for the registration of Manufacturers' Teams has now passed and we therefore know the 5 teams which will compete in the 2009 Manufacturers' Championship in WRC.
The first two, registered as “Manufacturers”, are obviously Citroën Total and BP Ford Abu Dhabi. The other three remaining teams, registered as “Manufacturers’ Teams” and required to compete in a minimum of 8 rounds of the calendar, are Stobart VK M-Sport Ford, Citroën Junior Team and Munchi?s Ford WRT.

The Munchi?s is the only team to have sent its registration request after the start of the season, confirming the Villagra-Companc crew for 8 events, between Cyprus and Australia. On the other hand, the Adapta team threw in the towel, even if it now had the possibility of entering only one crew whereas the regulations previously provided for the presence of 2 cars per team over the 8 compulsory rounds.

This decision by the FIA could mark the end of overly restrictive regulations imposed since 1997, the date the WRC appeared on the calendar, and whose objective was to professionalize the rally based on the method of operation of the F1 in order to make profits through the sale of television rights. There will therefore definitely be no Subaru registered with the FIA in 2009!
