Rally Sweden – Craig Breen penalized!
The commissioners of Rally of Sweden 2023 imposed a 10-second penalty on Craig Breen avant la Power Stage ! L’Irlandais est coupable d’être arrivé en retard au parc de regroupement avant cette ES. La Hyundai échange sa deuxième place au général avec celle de Thierry Neuville.
This penalty was caused by the Hyundai Motorsport staff, led by Cyril Abiteboul. Indeed, Craig Breen is only a part-time driver in 2023, while the designated leader of the South Korean team this year is Thierry Neuville, entered in all rounds of the WRC.
This change of position guarantees the Belgian three additional points if he manages to reach the finish line in this second place. Hyundai Motorsport does not lose any points in the Manufacturers' standings in this scenario, as the i20 hybrids remain second and third behind Ott Tänak (M-Sport Ford), et devant Kalle Rovanperä (Toyota).
« I don't like to call it a team order., said Cyril Abiteboul on the WRC+ channels. This is a situation that we all discussed together, Craig included. We're doing a good thing from a team point of view.
Craig did an outstanding job throughout the weekend. He deserves to be in our team, which has one objective, which is to fight for a title, that of the Drivers; we have a very clear strategy on this front. »
