Ott Tänak (Ford) s’est montré le plus rapide sur les 22 km de la spéciale de Mittelmosel, morceau de bravoure de cette journée de vendredi en Allemagne. Le pilote M-Sport signe le scratch en 13’00″3 et devance Sébastien Ogier (Ford) de 2″3 et Andreas Mikkelsen (Citroën) de 3″4. Elfyn Evans (Ford) suit en quatrième position à 4″8 devant Jari-Matti Latvala (Toyota) à 7″1, dont la Yaris porte les stigmates d’une touchette contre un poteau dans l’ES1.
Dani Sordo (Hyundai), précédant leader après l’ES2, concède 7″5 et la tête de l’épreuve. Les Hyundai i20 ont souffert puisque Thierry Neuville went off-course in the special and lost 10″9. Several drivers made mistakes in this special, notably Hänninen and Lappi (Toyota), who passed through the Moselle vineyards.
En WRC-2, Yoann Bonato (Citroën DS3) sets the best time ahead of Pontus Tidemand (Skoda Fabia R5). Eric Camilli (Ford Fiesta R5) complained of clutch problems.
Overall, Ott Tänak leads the event with a 4″2 lead over Andreas Mikkelsen and a 5″2 lead over Sébastien Ogier. Dani Sordo, leader after SS2, is in fourth position, 6″ ahead of the Toyota Yaris of Jari-Matti Latvala, fifth at 7″9. Jan Kopecky (Skoda Fabia R5) still leads WRC-2 with a 3″ lead over Tidemand.
