Dani Sordo (Hyundai) a signé son premier scratch au Rally of Germany by completing the 38,57km of Panzerplatte, the longest special of the event, in 21'55''7 with 6 tenths ahead of Ott Tänak (Toyota). Le leader du rallye a repris plus de 2 secondes à Sébastien Ogier (M-Sport), while Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) is in difficulty with its i20 WRC and loses 3 seconds on the five-time WRC champion by ranking just behind Craig Breen (Citroen). Jari-Matti Latvala (Toyota) follows him by a second, preceding Elfyn Evans (M-Sport) and the Finns Esapekka Lappi (Toyota) and Teemu Suninen (M-Sport). Andreas Mikkelsen (Hyundai) is more than 14 seconds ahead of his compatriot Mads Ostberg (Citroën).

Ott Tänak now has more than 13 seconds ahead of Sébastien Ogier. Thierry Neuville remains 3rd but sees his teammate Dani Sordo come back to less than 6 seconds after the Spaniard gained two places against Jari-Matti Latvala and Elfyn Evans. Esapekka Lappi remains 7th ahead of Craig Breen, Andreas Mikkelsen and Teemu Suninen. Mads Ostberg is more than 7 seconds behind the Finn.
