Devancé par Hayden Paddon (Hyundai) dans l’ES2, Andreas Mikkelsen (Volkswagen) a sonné la charge dans le chrono suivant de Northbank. Sur les 8,42 km, le Norvégien signe le meilleur temps en 5’49″3 et reprend la tête de la course avant les deux dernières spéciales de cette première boucle.

Hayden Paddon concedes 1″7 on Mikkelsen in SS2 and is now 1″1 ​​behind the leader of the Rally from Australia in the general classification. Ott Tänak (Ford) remains third at 5″5 ahead of Dani Sordo (Hyundai) at 6″7 and Mads Ostberg (Ford) at 7″1.

Third fastest in SS3, Eric Camilli (Ford) follows 12″ in sixth position ahead Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) and Sébastien Ogier (Volkswagen), classified at 15″ and 17″4. Jari-Matti Latvala (Volkswagen) continues his complicated start to the rally with damaged suspension on his Polo R WRC and, despite a temporary repair, still loses 1'27" on Mikkelsen's best time.
