Jari-Matti Latvala (Toyota) est arrêté dans la spéciale de Pelun, le 12e parcours du Rally from Chile which concluded the second stage. The Finn who was in 3rd place suffered a mechanical problem.

The reigning champion was disrupted by the onset of rain, as was Ott Tänak (Toyota) which gave 3 seconds back to the Frenchman. The leader of the event ranked behind Andreas Mikkelsen (Hyundai) and Kris Meeke (Toyota) ahead of Teemu Suninen (M-Sport).

Ott Tänak maintains a half-minute lead over Sébastien Ogier on the evening of the second stage, but the Citroën driver must protect himself from the return of Sébastien Loeb who is 5 seconds behind his compatriot. Elfyn Evans climbs to 4th place with the stop of Jari-Matti Latvala in front of Teemu Suninen who only has ten seconds ahead of his compatriot Esapekka Lappi. Andreas Mikkelsen finds himself 7th.
