The FIA World Council has announced that Priority 1 drivers will be able to choose a permanent number on their car from the 2019 season as is now the case in F1. An exception will be made for the reigning world champion who must wear number 1 (which is not the case in F1, Lewis Hamilton having chosen to keep number 44).
