Jari-Matti Latvala took the scratch in the first special of the afternoon, Iwanke Long 2. He was followed by his teammate Mikko Hirvonen who finished 2.5 seconds behind. Sébastien Ogier completes the top three by placing his Citroën C4 WRC four seconds behind the best time.
The leader of Rally from Japan, Petter Solberg, occupies fourth place and loses nine tenths ahead of the Citroën driver. Sebastian Loeb still suffered from his first place at the start and finished 14.1 seconds behind the scratch time, but he was ahead of Dani Sordo by 1.3 seconds, who fell from third to fifth place, behind the Ford drivers. The Spaniard complained of a transmission problem on the front wheels which seemed to lose power.
