The different strategies in the rainy conditions of the second stage of the Rally d’Espagne semblent profiter aux Toyota. En choisissant les pneus pluie, Ott Tänak signed the scratch in the 21,26km of Querol, ahead of his teammate Jari-Matti Latvala by 3”6.

Sébastien Loeb (Citroën) only set the 8th fastest time, almost 13 seconds behind the benchmark and was around ten seconds ahead of his teammate Craig Breen who damaged the rear of his C3 WRC when he spun. Behind Teemu Suninen (M-Sport), Andreas Mikkelsen (Hyundai) was the biggest loser with almost a minute behind!

Ott Tänak now has a 33-second lead over Dani Sordo and could further increase his lead with heavy showers falling on the next course. Elfyn Evans finds herself 6 seconds behind the national star. Jari-Matti Latvala moved up to 4th place for a little less than 2 seconds ahead of Sébastien Loeb who maintains a 4 second lead over his former teammate Sébastien Ogier. Craig Breen follows in 7th place with only half a second ahead of Thierry Neuville who has 9 seconds ahead of Esapekka Lappi. Andreas Mikkelsen fell to 10th position.

Kalle Rovanperä (Skoda) took the lead in WRC 2, 5 seconds ahead of Éric Camilli (Volkswagen).
