The pilots Toyota Kris Meeke et Jari-Matti Latvala ont signé le scratch dans les 7,8km d’Äänekoski avec une demi-seconde d’avance sur Sébastien Ogier (Citroën) et Andreas Mikkelsen (Hyundai). Le sextuple champion pourrait néanmoins écoper d’une pénalité pour départ volé (ce qui semble être bien le cas au vu des images).
Hyundai drivers Thierry Neuville et Craig Breen followed at 9 tenths just ahead Ott Tänak (Toyota). Esapekka Lappi (Citroën) n’est que 8e avec 1’’4 de retard devant les pilotes M-Sport Gus Greensmith et Teemu Suninen.
Jari-Matti Latvala retains the lead Rally of Finland before the closing super special of the first stage with 2 seconds ahead of Kris Meeke who took 2nd place from Esapekka Lappi by half a second, a valuable attack for the position on the road this Saturday. Ott Tänak remains 4th, 6 tenths behind the leading Citroën, while the gap between the Hyundais of Craig Breen and Andreas Mikkelsen has been reduced to 6 tenths. Sébastien Ogier is currently in 7th place, one second behind the Norwegian, 16 seconds ahead of Thierry Neuville. Teemu Suninen and Gus Greensmith still complete the Top 10.
