Ott Tänak (Toyota) est parti sur un gros rythme dans la première étape du Rally de Finlande. L’Estonien a bouclé les 20,04km de Moksi en 9’56’’1. Mads Ostberg (Citroën) a été le seul à pouvoir suivre le rythme en suivant à une seconde. Les locaux ont bien débuté avec Teemu Suninen (M-Sport) à 6’’6 et Jari-Matti Latvala à 9’’4. Hayden Paddon (Hyundai) a fini à une dizaine de secondes en précédant les Ford d’Elfyn Evans et de Sébastien Ogier. Andreas Mikkelsen (Hyundai) follows 16 seconds ahead Thierry Neuville (Hyundai).
Esapekka Lappi (Toyota) gave up half a minute after stalling. Craig Breen found himself around 50 seconds behind following a puncture.
Ott Tänak remains in the lead, preceding Mads Ostberg by 3 seconds. Teemu Suninen completes the provisional podium ahead of Jari-Matti Latvala and Hayden Paddon. Elfyn Evans is 6th ahead of her teammate Sébastien Ogier. Andreas Mikkelsen follows in 8th place ahead of Thierry Neuville. Esapekka Lappi completes the Top 10 ahead of Craig Breen.
