Kris Meeke will take the wheel of a Citroën Xsara WRC by participating in the 15th edition of Rallylegend held from October 19 to 22 around the Republic of San Marino. The Northern Irishman will take part in the event paying tribute to Colin McRae on the mount with which the Scot, world champion in 1995, competed in the 2003 WRC season. He will face more than 140 crews also making the trip.
“As a child, I was one of his unconditional fans, remembers the recent winner of the Rally from Spain. Quand j’avais 16 ans, j’avais économisé pour aller le voir rouler au rallye de Catalogne. Ensuite, j’ai commencé à travailler au bureau d’études de M-Sport. Mais je voulais piloter et j’ai pu accéder à mon rêve en remportant une opération de détection de jeunes pilotes. Ma première saison ne s’est pas passée idéalement, mais Colin m’avait remarqué et il m’a pris sous son aile. Il m’a aidé à progresser, puis à passer en FIA Junior WRC. Aujourd’hui encore, c’est sans doute la personne à qui je dois le plus. »
Kris Meeke will be co-driven for the occasion by Derek Brannigan, his usual usher.
“Beyond the emotional aspect, it’s always a pleasure to drive this car. It dates from 2003, but it is still incredibly consistent and effective. My objective will above all be to please the public who have come to remember Colin”, added Kris Meeke.
