Ford driver Jari-Matti Latvala intends to play referee in the announced duel between Sébastien Loeb et Sébastien Ogier, even if this rally never really worked for him. “It’s the most difficult rally on earth this season, explains the Finn. The roads are narrow with lots of blind climbs. Trees and stones line the stages, both inside the turns where the driver tries to cut, and outside where the car skids if a driver arrives too quickly. The roads have a clay surface, difficult in dry conditions and demanding on the tires. However, if it rains it quickly becomes muddy and slippery. »

In his last two appearances in Portugal, Jari-Matti Latvala has never seen the finish. In 2009, the Ford driver emerged unscathed from a spectacular accident; his car rolled 17 times before crashing into a ravine. But the Finn prefers to forget these episodes. “Crashes are part of motorsport and my accidents in Portugal are a thing of the past. I prefer to focus on the future rather than what happened before. »
