In the lead after a great time on the previous course, the reigning champion dropped almost 46 seconds on the scratch of Sébastien Ogier (Toyota) pour une raison inconnue après avoir été en manque de rythme sur le parcours.
Dani Sordo (Hyundai) a été le plus proche de Sébastien Ogier, mais ses espoirs de bon résultat ont pris un coup après son ennui mécanique. Esapekka Lappi (M-Sport) a suivi à près de 4 secondes devant Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) and Elfyn Evans (Toyota). Teemu Suninen (M-Sport) set the 6th fastest time ahead of Kalle Rovanperä (Toyota) and Gus Greensmith (M-Sport).
Sébastien Ogier takes the lead of the Rally of Mexico with more than 5 seconds ahead of Teemu Suninen. Thierry Neuville completes the top three with around ten seconds behind. Esapekka Lappi climbs to 4th place ahead of Elfyn Evans, Kalle Rovanperä and Gus Greesnmith who is ahead of Ott Tänak by less than 2 seconds.
