After Andreas Mikkelsen (Hyundai), it was his teammate Dani Sordo who had to give up, the Spaniard having suffered an electrical problem. The Spaniard was unable to start the Las Minas special, the 7th special of the Rally from Mexico. Its i20 WRC would have encountered an alternator or battery problem while the Hispanic driver was fighting for the lead of the race against Sébastien Ogier (Citroen).

The six-time WRC champion was behind on this course due to a puncture. The Frenchman failed just over 6 seconds from the scratchOtt Tänak who completed the 10,72km in 6'43''4 with 2 tenths ahead of Esapekka Lappi (Citroën). Jari-Matti Latvala (Toyota) followed almost 2 seconds ahead of Elfyn Evans (M-Sport), Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) and Kris Meeke (Toyota).

Sébastien Ogier is now ahead of Elfyn Evans with almost 11 seconds ahead. Kris Meeke climbs onto the provisional podium, ahead of the Finns Jari-Matti Latvala and Esapekka Lappi. The Citroën driver retained the advantage over Ott Tänak by 8 tenths. Thierry Neuville completes the WRC rankings.
