Andreas Mikkelsen (Hyundai) a démarré fort dans la première étape du Rally de Sardaigne en bouclant les 22,12km de Tula en 18’28’’1. Mads Ostberg (Citroën), Jari-Matti Latvala (Toyota), Ott Tänak (Toyota) and Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) were the closest but they failed about ten seconds from the benchmark. Sébastien Ogier (M-Sport) a fini à une douzaine de secondes en précédant les Finlandais Esapekka Lappi (Toyota) et Teemu Suninen (M-Sport). Craig Breen (Citroën) followed more than 16 seconds ahead of Hayden Paddon (Hyundai).
Elfyn Evans (M-Sport) broke a steering arm following contact with an embankment. The Welshman was able to replace the part but gave up around 13 minutes.
Andreas Mikkelsen finds himself leading the Sardinia Rally with 11 seconds ahead of his compatriot Mads Ostberg. Thierry Neuville follows three tenths ahead of Jari-Matti Latvala and Sébastien Ogier. Ott Tänak finds himself sixth ahead of Esapekka Lappi, Teemu Suninen, Hayden Paddon and Craig Breen.
