Ott Tänak (Ford) achieved the provisional scratch in SS1 of Rally of Catalonia with a time of 7'16''7 achieved at the end of the 12,5km of Caseres. The Estonian was ahead Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) de deux secondes et Sébastien Ogier (M-Sport) et Andreas Mikkelsen (Hyundai) de trois secondes. Jari-Matti Latvala (Toyota) a suivi à quelques dixièmes devant Elfyn Evans (M-Sport) et Dani Sordo (Hyundai).
The Citroën drivers and Thierry Neuville preferred to rely more on soft tires compared to their opponents. M-Sport made a balanced choice with three soft and two hard.
