Sébastien Ogier was at the head of Rally from Australia when the Citroën driver went off the track. The Frenchman was clearly aiming for victory by thinking of his opening position on the road for the 2nd stage and was on the attack to increase his lead over Mikko Hirvonen (Ford) before hitting a tree in a spin.

“The special was difficult, there was no grip with the hard tyres”, explains Sébastien Ogier on wrc. Com. ?I wasn?t under pressure but I knew I had to save time because there was sweeping tomorrow. A mistake happened so quickly. I just hit the back of the car on a small embankment. I spun but during this spin I hit a tree. It wasn't a big mistake. But it was easy to make a mistake in these conditions. The car should be okay because we stopped quickly. I don't know if it will be possible to score points. It's disappointing. »
