Monza Rally 2021
Does Sébastien Ogier (Toyota) make the break during this second stage of the 2021 Monza Rally? It is still too early to be certain but the Frenchman, associated with Julien Ingrassia, has never left Elfyn Evans (Toyota) so far behind since the start of the WRC final.
The Tricolor wins the 11th special, the longest of the event and the last contested in the mountains of Lombardy and now has a 5″2 margin in the general classification. Enough to allow him to remain calm before the specials on the Monza circuit.
Ranking of the special:
General classification :
Elfyn Evans drops an additional 4″1 on Sébastien Ogier! His delay now reaches 5″2 in the general classification!
“I had difficulty at the end of the special, the car was not stable. I must try to catch up this afternoon. »
Ogier: “I fought a little more against the car's trim. I think these mountain stages were magnificent, we will miss them! »
Does Sébastien Ogier (Toyota) make the break? The Frenchman takes the best time with 5″4 ahead of Dani Sordo (Hyundai), but more importantly, Elfyn Evans loses 2″4 after 18 km!
Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) drops 2″2 and tells his co-driver Martin Wydaeghe: “I managed”. Then at the stop point: “On all the small bumps, I lost the front of the car, it bounced. The tires no longer had grip, especially the front tires. I had to reduce my pace at the end of the race because the rear of the car had too much downforce now. The car is unbalanced. »
Dani Sordo (Hyundai) crossed the finish line with the fastest time, well ahead of Takamoto Katsuta (5″1). “I tried to be clean, to brake early before the corners. The car handles as I want it to, but the tires are difficult to keep alive. It was a great stage for the WRC. »
Oliver Solberg (Hyundai) has calmed down. He lost 3″7 to Takamoto Katsuta, who closed to 17″3 of the Swede overall. “The tires are cut. I drove super slow and very clean. I tried to be smart, and surprisingly my time isn't that bad. »
Takamoto Katsuta (Toyota) takes the best provisional time by 3″ over Adrien Fourmaux. “It’s getting better and better. I pushed a little too much in this special but I'm happy. »
Gus Greensmith (Ford) drops 11″ and finds himself a good distance behind Teemu Suninen (Hyundai, 10″5 ahead). “I have no brakes, it was a shit morning. »
Teemu Suninen is visibly less comfortable following his touch. The Finn is beaten by Adrien Fourmaux even though he had achieved the third best time in the previous special! He loses 3″9. “I had to be a little careful after my slip, but I have a better feeling today compared to yesterday. »
Kalle Rovanperä is in “management” mode with his Toyota Yaris WRC. The 21-year-old Finn must secure a few points to offer his team the Constructors' title. He concedes 14″5 to Adrien Fourmaux.
Fourmaux: “I no longer have any rear tires, it’s crazy! However, I tried to take it easy, but in the last km, I no longer had any grip. I tried to take advantage of it during this last “real” special before returning to the Monza circuit. »
Teemu Suninen hit the front left rear rail of his Hyundai! The Finn braked at the “too late” sign before a hairpin, but was able to leave without losing too much time.
Meanwhile, the WRC3s finish the previous special. Yohan Rossel (Citroën, supported by the Rookie Academy) continues his solo lead. The Frenchman has a 13″3 lead over his only opponent for the crown, Kajetan Kajetanowicz (Skoda).
It was on this special stage that Elfyn Evans closed his gap on Sébastien Ogier and returned to the lead of the competition.
It's time to move on to Selvino 2 (24,93 km), the longest special stage of this event. Adrien Fourmaux sets off.
