And two for Ott Tänak (Hyundai). The Estonian records a new best time on this 2021 Rally Finland on one of the fastest stages of this long second day.
The 2019 WRC world champion took the opportunity to gain 1”8 on the leader of the event Elfyn Evans (Toyota), while Craig Breen (Hyundai) was in third place. Generally, the pace of the competitors increased compared to the first pass this morning, due to the sweep and the formation of an ideal trajectory.
In the peloton, Esapekka Lappi (Toyota) gains some breathing space from his pursuer Thierry Neuville (Hyundai), while Sébastien Ogier (Toyota) says he is more satisfied with his Yaris following adjustments made this afternoon. In WRC2, Teemu Suninen (Volkswagen) goes solo in front of Mads Ostberg (Citroën).
Craig Breen does better than Elfyn Evans, but worse than his teammate Ott Tänak! The Irishman finished 2″ behind Tänak and 0″9 ahead of Evans. “They are going at an exceptional pace, I'm doing my best but it's difficult. »
Ott Tänak comes back to 7″ behind Elfyn Evans thanks to a better time! “The grip is better, I attack more now. »
Evans: “Maybe I need to push a little more but I didn't experience any tricky moments on this SS. »
The fight between the leading trio initially went in favor of Ott Tänak. The Estonian regains more than a second halfway on Elfyn Evans.
Esapekka Lappi signs the best provisional time with 1″2 ahead of Sébastien Ogier. Overall the drivers are going faster this afternoon compared to the first morning pass.
Thierry Neuville: “I lost two seconds if not more because I took a curve that required a long straight line. » The Belgian remains ahead of Sébastien Ogier in the general standings.
Ogier takes the best provisional time: “I'm having more fun this afternoon thanks to the changes. But I'm not 100% at the limit yet. »
Gus Greensmith gains another 15″ on Adrien Fourmaux.
Fourmaux concludes: “This is the fastest special stage of the rally at the moment. Off the path, there is a lot of gravel. It's a good learning rally for me. »
