Rally Italy-Sardinia 2018
Jari-Matti Latvala (Toyota) would be stopped on the link after SS16. Remember that the Finn seemed to encounter technical problems with his Yaris.
Thank you for your loyalty on this Saturday for the trans roundalpine of the WRC. The live text of the Rally Italy will resume tomorrow from 8:45 a.m. for SS17 Cala Flumini 1.
In WRC2, Jan Kopecky (Skoda Fabia R5) remains at the head of the category ahead of Nicolas Ciamin (Hyundai i20 R5).
Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) sets the best time in SS16 of the Rally Italy, beating Sébastien Ogier (M-Sport Ford) by four tenths. The Belgian, however, remains second in the general classification before the last stage, standing 3″9 behind the reigning world champion.
Despite a probable technical problem, Jari-Matti Latvala (Toyota) regained a little margin on his teammate Esapekka Lappi, now counting 5″3 of margin for third place. Hayden Paddon (Hyundai) remains fifth but sees the threat Mads Ostberg (Citroën) becoming clearer, the Norwegian having returned to 2″1.
Craig Breen (Citroën) remains seventh in the general classification. Note that Ott Tänak (Toyota) and Andreas Mikkelsen (Hyundai) both suffered punctures.
1'58″2 lost by Andreas Mikkelsen (Hyundai) who confirmed a puncture on his i20.
Seventh fastest time for Teemu Suninen (M-Sport Ford), while Andreas Mikkelsen (Hyundai) will soon finish.
Ott Tänak confirms the puncture on his Toyota Yaris. Net loss for the Estonian 2'01″00 in this SS16. “I was stupid, I waited 5 km before changing the wheel. The tire was delaminated. »
Andreas Mikkelsen (Hyundai) lost a lot of time in the second intermediate, after being stopped for a delayed time.
Ogier (M-Sport Ford) fails four tenths behind Neuville. “On the second SS, I didn't find a good rhythm. On this one I had to attack. »
The world champion therefore remains leader of the Rally Italy with a 3″ lead before Sunday's specials.
Ott Tänak (Toyota) was reported stopped in the SS, but was able to restart. A possible puncture for the Estonian.
Thierry Neuville's turn to arrive at the end of this stage. 17'49″1 for the Belgian who improves Latvala's time by six tenths. The Hyundai driver was ahead of Ogier in the intermediates.
Jari-Matti Latvala dampens the hopes of his young teammate at Toyota, by setting the provisional best time in 17'49″7, 3″7 ahead of Lappi. The Finn suddenly regains a lead of 5″3 overall. But Latvala appeared to have technical problems at the finish, fiddling with the accelerator of his Yaris WRC and not responding to interviews at the end of SS.
“I haven’t been through yet,” comments Lappi. We have to be happy with our performance and it's a tough competition at this level. I think Tommi will let us fight but we have to keep in mind the points for the Manufacturers' standings. »
Esapekka Lappi (Toyota) completed the special in 17'53″4, 17″ better than Ostberg (Citroën). Can the Finn dislodge Latvala from third place before the final stage?
Ogier reduced the gap in the second partial on Neuville: a tenth difference between the two rivals, to the advantage of the Belgian from Hyundai.
18'10″4 for Ostberg (Citroën) at the end of these 28 km from Monte Lerno. The Norwegian returns to 2″1 behind Paddon before the final stage tomorrow.
Eight tenths separate the two rivals at the first intermediate. Lappi (Toyota) remains the fastest in this partial.
Ogier (M-Sport Ford) is slower than Neuville (Hyundai) in the first part of this SS16.
Breen's provisional best time did not last long as Hayden Paddon (Hyundai) improved to 18'10″9, 11″5 ahead of Breen.
