Hayden Paddon (Hyundai) once again signed the scratch in the 26,7km of Viana do Castelo completed in 15'35''6 with more than 4s ahead of his teammate Dani Sordo. Kris Meeke (Citroën) followed at 5s, taking 7 tenths from Jari-Matti Latvala (Toyota) and a tenth from Ott Tänak (Ford). Elfyn Evans (Ford) and Craig Breen (Citroën) finished 6s from the scratch ahead of Thierry Neuville (Hyundai), Sébastien Ogier (Ford) and the Toyotas of Juho Hänninen and Esapekka Lappi. Stéphane Lefebvre (Citroën) set the 12th fastest time.

Mads Ostberg (Ford) lost more than 3 minutes due to a puncture while in 9th place.

Kris Meeke took the lead in the Rally Portugal with a 2 tenths lead over Jari-Matti Latvala. Ott Tänak follows just over a second behind with a few tenths ahead of Craig Breen. Hayden Paddon took 5th place with more than 4 seconds ahead of Sébastien Ogier. Dani Sordo took the advantage over his teammate Thierry Neuville by only 2 tenths from 6th place. Elfyn Evans was the first beneficiary of Mads Ostberg's puncture. Esapekka Lappi joins the top ten a few seconds ahead of his teammate and compatriot Juho Hänninen.
