Yoann Bonato (Citroën) remains well established at the head of WRC 2 ahead of his compatriot Adrien Fourmaux (Ford), still threatened by Guillaume de Mevius (Citroën) who is 7 seconds behind the FFSA driver.
Ogier: “We didn't make the best choice of tires. I expect conditions to be even more complicated tomorrow. We can quickly find ourselves with big gaps in Monte-Carlo. Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) significantly reduced his gap on Sébastien Ogier (Citroën) in SS8 of the Monte-Carlo Rally which closed the second stage. With a time of 13'25''5 at the end of the 18,47km, the Belgian reduced the gap which separates him from the leader of the event by 12 seconds. Ott Tänak (Toyota) was the closest, 7 seconds behind, ahead of his teammate Jari-Matti Latvala and Andreas Mikkelsen (Hyundai).
Elfyn Evans (M-Sport) then followed at 14 seconds, but Sébastien Loeb (Hyundai) let go further by conceding 22 seconds on the lead of the race. Teemu Suninen (M-Sport) and Kris Meeke (Toyota) were the slowest.
Sébastien Ogier retains the lead in the Monte-Carlo Rally at the end of the second day, but his lead is only 2 seconds over Thierry Neuville. Andreas Mikkelsen takes 3rd place with just over 7 seconds on Jari-Matti Latvala. The Finn also managed to regain the advantage over Sébastien Loeb who found himself 5th, 8 tenths behind the Yaris WRC. Elfyn Evans is in 6th place ahead of Ott Tänak and Kris Meeke.
Meeke is further behind with 39s behind Neuville's scratch. The Toyota driver is isolated in 8th row. “My position on the road is not advantageous. I still enjoy it, especially when the car is comfortable. My shock absorber was damaged. The first assessment is positive for Sweden. »
Loeb loses time again, 22s behind the race lead. The Hyundai driver lost 2 places against Mikkelsen and Latvala, the latter only ahead of the Alsatian by 8 tenths. “We are still here, that was the objective, even if we are no longer aiming for victory. »
This is the 6th time for Evans who is more than 14 seconds from the reference. The M-Sport driver drops 7s to Tänak but maintains a lead of more than 47s over the Toyota driver in the general classification. “I think we got the tires wrong. » The Welshman only had 2 studded tires.
Mikkelsen set the 4th fastest time, finishing just 4 tenths behind Latvala. “The conditions are difficult but we rode well. » The Hyundai driver maintains a little more than 7s on the Finn in the general classification.
Mikkelsen is almost 6s behind Latvala in the 4th intermediate.
Loeb is more than 7s behind Neuville in the 2nd sector.
Latvala sets the 3rd time, 2s behind his teammate Tänak and more than 9s from the provisional scratch. The Finn is fighting for the podium against Loeb and Mikkelsen. “I changed tires to see what we could do here. It's exciting to follow. »
Tänak is provisionally closest to Neuville with a little more than 7s behind. The Toyota driver is only in 7th place after his puncture in the previous SS.
Loeb is more than 4s behind Neuville at the first intermediate.
Neuville takes 12 seconds from Ogier. The Citroën driver retains the lead for 2 seconds over the Belgian. “We made the right choice of tires, but I made a mistake and I could have been in the lead with a good lead without it. There is still room for progress,” said the Belgian, smiling.
Suninen sets a first time of 13'52″8. Ogier improves by more than 15 seconds but the Frenchman is threatened by Neuville. “I was careful on the icy sections because I no longer had studded tires. I'm satisfied with the day, it's a good fight with Thierry. »
Tänak is almost 6s behind Neuville in the 2nd intermediate.
