Juho Hänninen (Toyota) lost more than half a minute in the final special of the first stage of the Sardinia Rally. The Finn, who was less than 8 seconds behind leader Hayden Paddon (Hyundai), went off the road and damaged his Yaris WRC. The crew is now struggling to reach assistance at the end of the stage and avoid abandonment.

 

Dani Sordo (Hyundai) signed the scratch by completing the 14,14km of Tergu-Osilo in 8’53”2, 3”2 ahead of Esapekka Lappi (Toyota). Ott Tänak (Ford) followed at 3”6, taking 3”4 from Jari-Matti Latvala (Toyota) and 4s from Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) who finished just behind Sébastien Ogier (Ford). Hayden Paddon dropped 6 tenths to the Belgian. Mads Ostberg (Ford) follows around ten seconds ahead of Andreas Mikkelsen (Citroën).

Hayden Paddon finishes the first stage of the Sardinia Rally with an 8''2 lead over Thierry Neuville who takes 2nd place with Juho Hänninen having problems with a 1''3 lead over Ott Tänak . The Estonian, who gained three positions on the last course, precedes Jari-Matti Latvala by 3 tenths. Mads Ostberg completes the top five ahead of Juho Hänninen and Sébastien Ogier who is only 3s behind the Finn. Esapekka Lappi remains 8th ahead of Andreas Mikkelsen.
