Barcelona Pre-Season Testing – Day 1
This is the end of this live text but don't worry we will be back tomorrow morning. The action will resume this Thursday at 9:00 a.m. (French time) for 8 new hours of driving, still divided into two sessions. At Aston Martin, Lance Stroll will start the day this time before handing over the AMR22 to Sebastian Vettel. Valtteri Bottas will give him a second session in a row before allowing Guanyu Zhou to make his debut with Alfa Romeo. Resting this Wednesday, Pierre Gasly (AlphaTauri) will have the right to a full day of driving just like Daniel Ricciardo (McLaren), Sergio Pérez (Red Bull) and Esteban Ocon (Alpine). Finally at Haas, Mick Schumacher will warm up the VF22 in the morning before Nikita Mazepin takes over in the afternoon. Mercedes and Ferrari for their part have not yet communicated their line-up. Very good evening to all.
It's the end of the first day of driving in Barcelona. The only driver under 1'20, Norris logically dominated the timesheet ahead of the Ferrari duo Leclerc/Sainz. In the end, he ranked 9th with a best mark of 1'22″246 but the time was not his objective for the day.

Good news for Schumacher. Haas mechanics repaired his floor and the German can return to the track

Great performance from Norris who seizes the leader's chair a few moments after losing his 2nd place to the detriment of Sainz. The McLaren driver is the first to go under the 1'20 mark. The benchmark to beat is now 1'19″951
Sainz is very present! Second time of the day just behind his teammate Leclerc. 1'20″416 for the Scuderia driver

Day interrupted for Schumacher and Haas. With a damaged flat bottom, the German's VF22 is in the hands of the team's mechanics who hope to do what is necessary to be able to send it back to the track. Michael's son has only covered 8 laps so far.
This afternoon's running has been disrupted by a damaged floor.
The crew are continuing to work hard on repairs so that Mick can add to his eight laps, before the end of the session.# HaasF1 pic.twitter.com/MoxW1CoNFc

No change at the top of the table where we still find Leclerc ahead of Norris and Russell. Hamilton remains 4th but improves his time and gets closer to 1'20. 1'21″032 for the Englishman who is 34 laps behind this afternoon
Slowly but surely, Stroll is getting closer to the 30 lap mark. The Canadian is at work this afternoon after spending the morning observing Vettel at the wheel of the AMR22

Everything is calm on the Barcelona side for the moment this afternoon. No driver was able to go under the 1'21 mark but Hamilton quickly moved into 4th place, just over a second behind Leclerc. The Englishman is rather active with more than 25 laps completed just like Sainz. Also sent to the track for the 2nd session of the day, Verstappen has already completed more than 100 laps, no one is doing better than him at the moment
Concerning tires, Pirelli has made its entire range available to the teams. Drivers will therefore be able to try all the tires in the catalog this week

It's rather calm at the moment in terms of times. Some drivers are just discovering their car and will gradually increase the pace
After almost an hour of driving here is an update on the ranking still dominated by Leclerc's time established this morning
Tsunoda back on track! The Japanese is the only AlphaTauri driver to ride today while waiting for Gasly this Thursday

As a reminder, the morning session was dominated by Leclerc who covered a total of 80 laps ahead of Norris and Russell. These three are also the only drivers to have gone below the 1'21 mark. Reigning champion Verstappen finished 6th with 80 laps completed as well.

No driver change at AlphaTauri, Red Bull, McLaren and Alpine where Tsunoda, Verstappen, Norris and Alonso continue with a new 4-hour session. In the other teams, Hamilton will take Russell's place at Mercedes. Ditto for Sainz, Stroll, Albon, Bottas and Schumacher who will respectively replace Leclerc, Vettel, Latifi, Kubica and Mazepin
