Vettel takes pole for the Bahrain GP with a time of 1'27"958, a new record on the Sakhir circuit. Ferrari monopolizes the first row Räikkönen by less than 2 tenths. Bottas follows in 3rd place ahead of his teammate Hamilton, but the reigning champion will have to drop to 9th place with his penalty. Ricciardo will be the first to benefit while Gasly takes a very good 6th position (5th place on the grid) ahead of Magnussen and Hülkenberg. Ocon and Sainz Jr complete the Top 10 and will start behind the Briton's Mercedes.
