Rally Finland 2017
The second stage of the Rally Finland will begin tomorrow at 7:58 a.m. French time.
Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) won the 2,31km Harju super special with a tenth ahead of Ott Tänak (Ford) and 3 tenths over Craig Breen (Citroën). Elfyn Evans (Ford) finished a second equal with Jari-Matti Latvala (Toyota) taking half a second back from Mads Ostberg (Ford). Esapekka Lappi (Toyota) gave up 2 tenths to his teammate.
Esapekka Lappi maintains a 4s lead over Jari-Matti Latvala at the end of the first stage of Rally Finland. Teemu Suninen (Ford) remains 4rd ahead of Craig Breen (Citroën) who has a 3s lead over Juho Hänninen (Toyota). Mads Ostberg only retains his 6th place for a tenth ahead of Elfyn Evans. Thierry Neuville remains 6th ahead of Kris Meeke.
Lappi dropped 2 tenths in Latvala by signing the 6th time tied with his compatriot Suninen. His lead at the head of the rally remains 4” over Latvala. “It’s hard to describe my feelings. I’ve dreamed of being a driver since I was a kid and it’s magical to be in the lead at home. My goal was to finish on the podium. »
Latvala achieves the 4th provisional time, one second behind Neuville, tied with Evans. The Finn is in 2nd place. “Lappi did an incredible job today?. I did what I could but he was a little faster even if he was able to perhaps benefit from a slightly better position on the road. »
Suninen achieves the 5th provisional time, 1″2 behind Neuville. The M-Sport driver remains well placed in 3rd place with a 14s lead over Breen. “The forest stages were very good. We had good times. I'm still having difficulty in the city specials. »
Breen sets the 3rd provisional time, 3 tenths behind Neuville. The Citroën driver is 4th in the general classification with 6″1 ahead of Hänninen. “It was both a good day and a bad day. I made a few mistakes, but overall it's still positive. »
Hänninen sets the 7th provisional time with a bent wheel on his Toyota, 4s behind Neuville. The Finn is in 5th place in the general classification. “This wheel problem is especially handicapping on jumps. The car still behaved well, but I can still be satisfied to be at the finish. »
Ostberg signs the 4th provisional time, 1″5 behind Neuville. The Norwegian retains 6th place for a tenth ahead of Evans. “I am very disappointed with the mechanical problems encountered this afternoon but I am still happy to be at the finish. The rally still remains long. »
Evans achieves the 3rd provisional time, one second behind Neuville. The Dmack driver is in 7th place, being a few tenths behind Ostberg. “It was a very long and difficult day. I am already happy to be at the finish. »
Neuville snatches the provisional scratch for a tenth ahead of Tänak with a time of 1’46”9. “We don’t have the speed we need. »
Meeke achieves the 3rd provisional time, 2″4 behind Tänak and 6 tenths behind Sordo. The Citroën driver occupies 9th place in the ranking. “I couldn’t find my confidence today. »
Huttunen achieves the 4th provisional time, 4″6 behind Tänak, ahead of Gilbert by 1″1. The Finn has a lead of more than 56 seconds over the Frenchman in the general classification.
Gilbert sets the 4th provisional time, 6″7 behind Tänak. The Fabia R5 driver is in 2nd place in WRC 2, almost a minute behind Huttunen.
Arai sets the 5th provisional time, 1″2 behind Gorban. The Fiesta R5 driver is in 3rd place in WRC 2.
Al Qassimi: “I was very careful with the accelerator because the car would oversteer as soon as I pressed the pedal. »
Al Qassimi achieves the 3rd provisional time, 5″4 behind Tänak. The Citroën driver is in 20th place.
Gorban reached the finish line around ten seconds behind Tänak at the wheel of his old generation Mini WRC. The Ukrainian is in 17th place, being the only one entered in the WRC Trophy.
Tänak improves Sordo’s time by 1″8 with a time of 1’47″0. “We can only continue. This tile arrived early in the rally. We must turn the page and move forward. » The M-Sport driver remains 9th in the general classification with 2″3 ahead of the Spaniard.
Sordo, first on the road in the super special, set a time of 1’48″8, 4″7 behind Tänak’s scratch achieved last night. “It’s hard to know where our performance deficit comes from. We quickly lose ground when confidence is no longer there. The car handles well but the times are bad. It was not a great stage for us. »
