Red Bull denies approaching Alonso

Fernando Alonso revealed on Sky Sports that he had been approached by Red Bull to replace Daniel Ricciardo who will join Renault Sport F1 Team from 2019.

The double world champion who ultimately preferred to leave the discipline to concentrate on WEC (and certainly theIndyCar) could thus have taken the place which will be entrusted to Pierre Gasly, the latter being nevertheless legitimate to succeed the Australian by evolving within Toro Rosso.

“I received an offer from one of the top three teams this year, but I didn't want to embark on this adventure because F1 does not bring me the challenges I am looking for at the moment. I am discovering disciplines which bring different challenges and which allow me to become a more complete pilot.”, explained Fernando Alonso before confirming that the proposal concerned the place left free by Daniel Ricciardo.

The affair gained importance in the Spa-Francorchamps paddock which is hosting the Belgian GP this weekend when Red Bull denied the team resident's comments. McLaren.

“We were in negotiations with him in 2007 or 2008, but his demands were boring. It was always a “one-man show” when you look at his stints at McLaren and Ferrari », argued Dr. Helmut Marko on Austrian TV.

Fernando Alonso has since reacted to the remarks of the thinking heads at Red Bull Racing by maintaining his version of the facts.

“I had offers in 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013 and two this year. One in Monaco and a second this month. I'm glad you asked because Christian Horner and Mr. Marko's comments this summer were completely off the mark when they claimed that I cause chaos and am someone who is difficult to deal with. to work. They have never worked with me and they have tried to hire me 5 or 6 times over the last seven years while also claiming that they are loyal to their young pilot program. I wrote to Christian after his statements and he apologized by email and I hope he will do so again this weekend.", retorted the double world champion on Sky Sports.
