The FIA more severe with aero downforce in F1

The Commission and the FIA Strategic Group met this Tuesday April 25 in Paris in the presence of Jean Todt, the president of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, and Chase Carey, the director of the Formula One Group, to discuss technical and sporting regulations on the future of the discipline.

The meeting notably concerned the presence of “shark fins” and “T-wings” on this season’s single-seaters. These aero appendages, criticized for their aesthetics and their resistance, will be “strictly limited” from 2018.

In addition, restarts after a red flag period should be carried out from standing starts and no longer behind a safety car.

The use of oil should also be more strictly regulated with only one precise origin that can be used on a Power Unit for a test.

Pirelli will be able to develop its 2018 rain tire with single-seaters and older generation wheels.

These proposals will now have to be validated by the FIA World Council.

Changes will be expected from the Spanish GP played on the weekend of May 14 in Barcelona since the sporting regulations will require the names of the drivers and the numbers of the cars to be more visible.
