Le MotoGP returns to Europe to compete in a long series of meetings, the first of which takes place in Jerez. The Spanish Grand Prix will see eleven of the twenty-two drivers entered perform at home, which promises to liven up the debates.

Free Practice 1:

  • During the first minutes of driving, the Gresini drivers set the tone by blocking the first two provisional places in the session. Marc Marquez recorded a first mark in 1:37.376 ahead of his brother Alex (1:37.404).
  • The lead in the standings remained unchanged throughout the session, and the Marquez brothers knocked the reference mark down a few times. Before the checkered flag, Alex took the lead with an impressive lap of 1:36.630, which relegated Marc to more than half a second.

  • Maverick Vinales completes the top-3, ahead of his teammate Aleix Espargaro, while Jorge Martin does not do better than ninth.
  • Francesco Bagnaia did not immediately come out of his box, his team was carrying out repairs on his machine. When the reigning world champion took to the track, he set the 17th fastest time of the session, before gradually improving. The Ducati rider, however, started his Friday discreetly and finished in 12th place.
  • Johann Zarco lost riding time by falling at turn 8 on the handlebars of his Honda. After completing a total of 19 laps, the Frenchman took 19th position. fabio quartararo starts the weekend with the 14th fastest time, just behind the factory Ducati riders.

  • As a reminder, three Wildcard drivers joined the usual starters at Jerez. Stefan Bradl (Honda), Lorenzo Savadori (Aprilia) and Dani Pedrosa (KTM) finished the session in 24th, 23rd and 7th positions respectively. The last mentioned was the fastest KTM rider this Friday morning, and confirms that he will be a rival for many riders this weekend.
