Mark champion with Gresini? “Why not”, according to Rins

Alex Rins and Marc Marquez made a similar decision during the summer of 2023, since the two Spaniards announced they were leaving Honda to try to find success with another manufacturer. While the first city will join fabio quartararo at Yamaha for the next campaign of MotoGP, the eight-time world champion will be lined up alongside his brother Alex, at Gresini Racing (Ducati).

Rins recalls, however, that the two contractual situations were different, and believes that he has not broken with the Japanese manufacturer.

“These are very different cases. I cannot comment on Marc's case because I was not at the heart of the matter, but in my case, I had a 1+1 contract (One year with option to extend for an additional year , Editor's note.) So I did not break the contract, explains n°42 in an interview given to Trademarks. Yamaha came along and made me an interesting offer to ride with the factory team which I accepted.

There was a lot of agitation around Marc, that's logical, but I repeat that in my case, continuity was optional, I did not cancel my contract. For the rest, I'm looking forward to starting the year, I know that Ducati has eight competitive bikes on track, but I think we can fight to win races. »

If he therefore thinks he can find his way back to victory with another Japanese factory, Rins places as much hope in his compatriot, whom he even considers capable of fighting for the crown.

" Why not ? It has been proven that you can fight for a championship with a satellite team, he underlines with particular reference to the case of Jorge Martín in 2023. The Ducatis are very strong, the DesmosediciGP is the most balanced bike. 

I wouldn't be surprised if Marc could win the world championship with such a machine. We have already seen the performance of his brother Alex with the same weapons” justifies the Yamaha rider to conclude.

Alex Marquez, like Fabio di Giannantonio, showed that Gresini could taste success during last season. In twenty meetings, the duo achieved four podiums in the main race, including a victory during the Qatar GP. Marc's brother also gave the Ducati satellite team in Great Britain a Sprint victory.
