Formula e – Sam Bird in pole position in Buenos Aires

Contrast prevails within the D.S. Virgin Racing in Argentina. If Jean-Eric Vergne had an uncertain time for the Buenos Aires ePrix, following food poisoning, and was only able to start his day during qualifying (with a 15th place on the grid), the British Sam Bird won his first pole position in the discipline.

The now representative of Ferrari en WEC dominated the session with a best lap in Super Pole set in 1'09″420, despite a deteriorating track according to the drivers. It is also the first pole for DS Virgin Racing in Formula e.

Alongside Bird, Nicolas Cheers (Renault e.dams) will go to the front line. António Félix da Costa (Team Aguri) and Stéphane Sarrazin (Venturi) will share the second row while Mike conway (Venturi), for his first ePrix, reached Super Pole and will start fifth.

Less success for the championship favorites and in particular for the leader of the general classification Sébastien Buemi (Renault e.dams), who spun during his flying lap, and who will start from the back of the grid. Lucas di Grassi (Audi ABT Schaeffler) only took seventh place behind Robin Frijns (Amlin Andretti).

The session was interrupted by a red flag less than a minute and a half from the end of the third group after contact with the wall by Salvador Duran (Team Aguri). At the same time, Bruno Senna (Mahindra Racing) also made a mistake in the last chicane, largely damaging his car.

The Buenos Aires ePrix will start at 20 p.m. French time.
