ABT has announced that the team is joining forces with Lola – who recently confirmed her return to competition via the Formula E – and Yamaha Motor for next season. The German team, which returned to the electric world championship last year, is already strengthening itself for the year 2025 with the emergence of a partnership with Lola Cars, an emblematic figure in motorsport as well as Yamaha, which will ensure the development of the powertrain.

“We are delighted to have found two renowned partners for our future in Formula E, said Thomas Biermaier, CEO and Team Principal of ABT. Of course, it will be a big challenge for a new manufacturer to enter and establish themselves in a world championship. But during our discussions and negotiations over the last few months, we clearly felt how competent, motivated and determined Lola and Yamaha were to make this project a success, like all the members of our team. »

Fresh start ABT Cupra Formula E Team

After a one-year break, ABT returned to Formula E in early 2023 with CUPRA as a partner and has been racing with a Mahindra Racing powertrain ever since. The contract with the latter was mutually terminated and will end at the end of 2024.

“This is the start of an exciting new era in our Formula E history for the ABT brand, enthuses Hans-Jürgen Abt, CEO of the ABT Group. We started as a private team in 2014, we were Audi's factory team then, we have been a customer team since the return and now we want to get back to the front of the grid with this new partnership”

This Lola Cars and ABT partnership seems to be a give and take and everyone is delighted with this news, starting with Till Bechtolsheimer, president of Lola: “It’s exciting to work with a team that has so much history and success in this sport. We look forward to growing our relationship within the Electric Racing Series and beyond.”
