The Dutchman from Ed Carpenter Racing was the fastest in front Romain Grosjean (Juncos Hollinger). The Frenchman, already very comfortable yesterday with the hard tires, confirmed his good disposition, in a session where soft tires are not traditionally used, just before qualifying. Scott McLaughlin (Penske), Graham Rahal (Rahal Letterman Lanigan) and Christian Lundgaard (Rahal Letterman Lanigan) rounded out the top 5.

For the Dane, this is the second consecutive session in the top 5, and the Rahal team seems to be in good shape on the Birmingham track in Alabama. Unfortunately, the third car, that of Pietro Fittipaldi, was only able to complete one lap in this session.

Several mechanical problems in the peloton

The Brazilian actually went out in the gravel in the first minutes, the fault of a problem with the steering. Fittipaldi explained that he felt the steering suddenly become very light, and the images confirm this, with the front wheels turning in directions other than that indicated by the steering wheel. It remains to be seen whether the changes can be made before qualifying (21:30 p.m. French time).

For Felix Rosenqvist (Meyer Shank) too there will be changes to be made. The Swede was indeed the victim of an engine problem and his team is working to replace the entire Honda block, in order to allow him to participate in this evening's session. Rosenqvist took pole position last week on the streets of Long Beach.

Theo Pourchaire for its part caused the session to be neutralized halfway through, after a spin at the entrance to the penultimate corner. The Frenchman from McLaren was able to restart and still complete 25 laps with a 23rd place finish. Pourchaire completed only two laps less than Luca Ghiotto, the Italian debutant who is accumulating running time for Dale Coyne Racing.
