Armstrong in the footsteps of Lundgaard and Ilott
Vice-champion of Formula 3 in 2019, Marcus Armstrong failed to convince in Formula 2 with three 13th places in three seasons in the antechamber of the F1. Like Christian Lundgaard and Callum Ilott before him, the New Zealander will try his luck in IndyCar to restart his rise. “I am delighted to arrive in IndyCar, but especially at Chip Ganassi Racing because it is such an emblematic and successful team. I have an extraordinary opportunity in front of me to learn from people who have performed at the highest level in this sport, said Marcus Armstrong. As a 'Kiwi', I've always watched Scott Dixon succeed in the Championship with this team, so on a personal level it's pretty special for me. I am a hard worker who seeks to improve every day. With the knowledge and personnel this team has, I am very excited to take on this new challenge. »
“It's exciting to see Marcus drive the No. 11 car for Chip Ganassi Racing in 2023. At 22 years old, what he has in common with others who have climbed into IndyCar with us is that at at this age he already knows how to win, said Mike Hull, general manager of Chip Ganassi Racing. He has proven it several times at the highest level in the world. Roll on 2023! »
Marcus Armstrong is scheduled to meet his Chip Ganassi Racing teammates in Indianapolis in mid-December. He will participate in his first IndyCar race in St. Petersburg, Florida on March 5, 2023. The team will provide an update on the driver of the No. 11 Honda for the oval races at a later date.
