Farfus praises the calm of his team after Team WRT's winning bet

The rain came to redistribute the cards in LMGT3 during the 6 Hours of Imola. A fact that Team WRT took very well into account, by deciding not to switch its cars to rain tires, and which brought a double for the Belgian team and its BMWs.

In the victorious car, the No. 4 BMW M3 GT31, Brazilian Augusto Farfus managed to stay on course during the worst of the downpour. A delicate situation, especially since the rain never really came with the same intensity on the entire Imola circuit. With a second sector that was almost completely dry and a final portion that was much wetter, keeping the wheels on the tarmac was no easy task!

Farfus also wanted to salute the Olympian calm of his team during this phase of the race, which could have caused many setbacks for many teams. Real teamwork, where all links in the chain contributed to the success.

Augusto Farfus (BMW M4 GT3 n°31), winner of the 6 Hours of Imola: “The rain was coming at different places on the circuit, so you had to guess a bit how hard to attack, and how the surface was evolving. I still felt good in the car, I quite like these types of conditions. I immediately felt that I had more pace than Maxime, but with the traffic it's very complicated.

I built an advantage which must have reached 10 seconds [over Maxime Martin, in the other BMW of Team WRT], but then all the prototypes come out of the pits and you have to fight with them, and you lose everything. I think I lost those eight seconds just because I didn't have the right track position. However, I knew I had a good foundation, I was happy to be behind the wheel. I think this LMGT3 category shows how important teamwork is, as each individual has their own tasks throughout the weekend. You can only win if each driver performs their task perfectly. And today I am very proud to have these two gentlemen [Darren Leung and Sean Gelael] by my side!

Weather forecasts… not very reliable!

The team remained calm throughout the race, it was a very fluid discussion about whether we should put the rain tires on. I think there were only a few cars like us that stayed on slicks throughout. Even when the rain increased in intensity we were able to stay on slicks, so hats off to the guys from WRT and BMW. The problem is that the third sector was very wet, sector 1 was almost dry and the second was completely dry. We therefore saw that laps in 1'53 were what we needed to do at this precise moment. But then the rain increased in intensity, and we suddenly had to trust the weather forecast. However, they said the rain would stop and that was not the case! You also have to rely on your experience, that of the team, the feedback from the drivers... and also a little luck. Today I think we checked all those boxes and we won. »
