H+17: Toyota takes a gamble against Porsche

The 17th hour of racing at Le Mans was eventful due to several accidents mostly involving LMP2s. Nelson Panciatici hit the wall at the first Mulsanne chicane after apparently encountering a mechanical problem on theAlpine n°35 which occupied fourth position in the category. Pierre Thiriet then made a mistake by missing his turn at Mulsanne while the No. 46 Oreca was in second position behind the No. 460 A36.

The entry of the safety car pushed Toyota to pass the two TS050 Hybrids through the pits, thus leaving control of the race to the Porsche n°2 of Neel Jani who now has a one-minute lead over the Japanese LMP1s.

The GTE Pro also suffered. Tommy Milner was the victim of an impressive off-track event at the wheel of the No. 64 Corvette at the entrance to the Dunlop Chicane/ The No. 62 Ferrari of Risi Competizione nevertheless retains the lead in the category against Sébastien's Ford Gts. Bourdais and Richard Westbrook who are ahead of the #95 Vantage of Nicki Thiim.

No change, however, for GTE Am which remains dominated by the No. 62 Ferrari of the Team Corsa driven by Jeffrey Segal.

The CLM01/P1 by Kolles Racing has joined the list of abandonments following the start of a fire.
